How to make a foraged winter bowl arrangement

It might be the depths of winter with long dark nights, chilly frosts and endless grey days but if you look closely enough there is still an abundance of foliage to forage in the hedgerows,  fields and garden.

So if you are feeling creative but don’t know where to start here’s some ideas of things to forage this winter to make an arrangement for the home.

We choose some hellebore plants and a vintage bowl from the Pod & Pip workshop (cut hellebores from the garden can quickly droop, so hellebore plants are a good option tucked in with moss into a bowl. We then went foraging for some goodies to add to our hellebore focal point. It wasn’t long before we had bundles of ivy and flowering viburnum to add the the bowl arrangement. Branches of catkins were selected based on their shape and size and added some colour and texture while sticks helped to add some height and structure. Seeds heads from various now brown and dried plants added some further texture along side some rosehips and old fluffy mans beard. Top tip – when adding your foraged foliage to the hellebore bowl stand back from the bowl and you will see the shape much more easily and where you need to add your structural foraged pieces.

Super simple to make and but super satisfying to admire the end result.

So take a look when you are walking the dog or having a quick look for signs of spring in the garden as you will be pleasantly surprised at what you can find this time of year to crate a winter vase or arrangement.
